Is there a fee to use Boukili?

Boukili is free for all users (parents, children, teachers and students, etc.).
Is Boukili safe for children and students?

All the content on Boukili is designed to be secure. Children and student profiles are separated from adult profiles by a code, to allow children and students access only to the profile that is dedicated to them.
Is Boukili only available in Ontario?

Boukili is available across Canada.
Who is Boukili for?

Boukili is for children ages 4 and up. Parents and teachers can use Boukili as a support tool to learn French.It can be used to support children learning French as a first language or learning French as a second language.
Do I need an IDELLO licence or an IDELLO account to use Boukili for free?

Boukili is offered free of charge, with no conditions. IDELLO is a platform with more than 15,000 varied pieces of content in French designed to support parents and teachers (if you are a teacher, ask your school, as your school may already have a licence you can use).
Which browser is best suited to use Boukili?

We recommend Chrome or Firefox for an optimal experience when using the Boukili web application.
Can I access Boukili’s books offline?

An Internet connection is required to access Boukili books.
Can I download a Boukili book?

Downloading Boukili books is not currently possible.
Can I publish a book in Boukili?

Can I create a parent account and a teacher account with the same email address?

Only one account can be created per email address. To change your profile (parent or teacher), you must delete your account under the Settings menu, then create a new account.

What features are available to teachers in Boukili?
How many student profiles can I create?

You may create an unlimited number of students.
How can I create several classes?

The option to create multiple classes is not currently available. To differentiate between students in multiple classes, a differentiation statement can be added to the beginning of each student’s first name. E.g. C1-Lucas, C2-Elodie, C1-Thomas, etc.
Where can I find the class code?

When creating the teacher profile, the class code is displayed directly under the teacher’s name and avatar on the left side of the dashboard.
How do I invite students to join a Boukili class?

A unique class code is automatically displayed under the teacher’s name and avatar on the teacher dashboard. Each teacher can create student profiles from the dashboard and give them the class code to access it.
How do I allow students to access their profile?

Once the teacher has created a student’s profile, the student can use the class code provided by the teacher to log in by clicking “I have a class code” on the Boukili login page. Students can then select their profile created by the teacher.
Can I assign books to my students?

As a teacher, you can assign books to your students.Under the assignment tab, click on “Nouvelle assignation” (New Assignment) and choose the book to assign. Select students by checking the box in front of their name in the list and confirm to complete the assignment.
How can students see their assigned books?

When students log in to their profile, they can find books assigned by their teacher at the very top of the home page, under “Mes livres à lire” (My books to read). This is the first page that appears when students log in to their profile.
How do I keep track of assigned books?

To find out if a student has read an assigned book, click on the student’s profile on your dashboard. The word “lu” (reading complete) will appear in front of the book. You can get more details about the reading by clicking on the book (reading time, quiz score, book recording).
Why can’t I find narration mode in the books?

Narration mode in books is only available through a child or student profile. To access the student area, simply click on the "Student Area" button at the top right of the dashboard. It is also possible to return from the student area to the teacher dashboard by entering the 4-digit code created during registration.
How can students customize their avatar?

Students can customize their avatar. On the home page of the student’s profile, click on the wardrobe collection icon on the left sidebar. Unlocked collection items depend on the student’s progress. The more books a student reads, the more “new items” will be unlocked for use on his or her avatar.
Can I import a class into Boukili?

Yes. You can import a class into Boukili. Simply click on on the dashboard, download and fill out the provided template, then upload it to confirm and display the list of new students.
Can I delete multiple student profiles at once?

Yes. Simply click on the pencil icon next to the total of your students, check the relevant profiles and click on delete.
Does Boukili offer definitions for new words used in the books?

Yes. Word definitions are available directly in the books. When you see a purple word in the text, click on it to display the corresponding definition.
Can I send personalized messages of encouragement to students?

Sending personalized messages to students is not currently possible. You may choose a message among the default options.

Parents and Children

What features are available to parents in Boukili?
How many children profiles can I create?

It is possible to create up to 8 children’s profiles.
Does my child need a code to access his or her profile?

A parent can choose to create an access code for a child. If the parent chooses not to create an access code, simply click on the “kid zone” icon in the top right corner of the parent’s dashboard and click on the child’s profile to access the child’s profile. A kid zone can include multiple profiles (created by the parent) to create a personalized experience for each individual child.
How do I know how my child is doing?

To see how your child is progressing, click on your child’s profile on the dashboard. The profile will display information such about books read: reading duration for each book and scores achieved in the quizzes after reading. If your child has recorded him- or herself reading, you can also listen to these recordings.
Why can’t I find narration mode in the books?

It is also possible to return from the child's area to the parent's dashboard by entering the 4-digit code created during registration.
How can a child customize his or her avatar?

Can my child continue to use the profile created by his or her teacher last year?

The child’s student profile remains available until the teacher deletes it. To enjoy all the free benefits of Boukili, create a parent account now.
Where can I find the class code to read with my child?

The class code is provided by the teacher.
How can I change my child’s reading level?

Changing the child’s reading level manually is not possible. Your child’s reading progression is what affects his or her reading level. Nevertheless, you can access books at all reading levels regardless of your child’s level.
Why does the book assigned to my child by his or her teacher not open again after the first reading?

If a book is assigned to the student, he or she may read it once and wait for the teacher to submit an assessment of his or her reading (answers to the quiz or reading recording). The book will be made available again once the teacher has validated the assessment.
How do I create an access code for my child?

In your child’s profile, click on the pencil icon in front of your child’s name. You will have the option to create a code for your child (a code with three images).

Content

What kind of content does Boukili offer?

Boukili offers books on six reading levels comparable to the first six reading levels of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. It also offers an assessment of reading comprehension through quizzes and educational games.
Is the syllable game Des sons et des mots (Sounds and Words) about oral syllables or written syllables?

The game is about oral syllables. These are the syllables we hear when we speak, or the way we pronounce a word. For example, the word “giraffe” contains two oral syllables (“gi” and “raffe”).
Why did you choose oral syllables over written ones?

Oral language is the basis for the early stages of learning to read and write. Indeed, when young learners’ phonological awareness is well developed (i.e. their ability to recognize the correspondence between the letters of a word and the sounds they produce), this helps them acquire solid reading and writing skills. That’s why we recommend introducing oral syllables before written ones. Since Boukili’s syllable game is aimed primarily at pre-readers and readers who are just starting out, we’ve chosen to focus on oral syllables.
Do all books include quizzes?

Each book includes a quiz at the end. The book must be opened through a student or child profile. Quizzes are not available through parent or teacher profiles.
What are the main features of Boukili?
- Illustrated books : Boukili offers illustrated books on six reading levels, supported by quizzes to assess reading comprehension.
- Multiple reading modes : Children can use three reading modes. Children can read all on their own (Solo), use audio playback (Narration) or record their own playback. (Playback recording is only available on the Android and IOS application.)
- Travel and reward : students or children can travel the world through reading. Each book read allows children to advance in their journey and collect rewards by reaching new countries (unlocking collection items to customize their avatar and games).
- Educational games : children will unlock educational games (to foster comprehension, memorization, etc.).
Do all books offer audio reading?

Yes. All of Boukili’s books offer the option of audio reading. This option is available in both child and student profiles.
Why aren’t new books visible?

To get the latest news and books, be sure to clear your browser’s cache and update your app, if you use a tablet or smartphone.
Where can I find word definitions?

Word definitions are available directly in the books. When you see a purple word in the text, click on it to display the corresponding definition.
How many questions are there at the end of each book?

Most books offer three-question multiple choice quizzes. Some books in levels 5 and 6 may contain five questions.

Technical Support

Why am I asked for a 4-digit code when I register for Boukili?

This code will be requested when switching from the child/student area to the parent/teacher dashboard.
Can I use Boukili offline?

You must login to your online account to access Boukili and its content.
Is Boukili only available on Android?

Boukili is available in application format on Android and iOS. It is also available as a web application.
How do I change a forgotten password?

On the login page, select “continuer avec un courriel” (continue with email) and click on “mot de passe oublié” (forgot password). Enter your email address to receive a password reset email. If you don’t see an email in your main inbox, make sure to check your junk mail folder.
How do I activate or deactivate recording?

Recording options are only available on the Android and iOS applications (not available on browser). The option is activated by default at the time of registration. You may deactivate it when you validate your registration. If the option has been disabled, you may re-enable it from the Settings page.
How do I create an access code for a child or student profile?
To create an access code for a child or student profile, follow these steps:
- Click on the child or student profile from the dashboard
- Click on Edit (pencil in front of the child or student’s name)
- Check the code activation box, choose a code to assign, then confirm.
How do I change a student’s information (reading level, access code, etc.)?
To make changes to a child or student profile, follow these steps:
- Click on the child or student profile from the dashboard
- Click on Edit (pencil in front of the child or student’s name)
- Make the desired changes, then confirm the edit.
How to change the email address associated to my Boukili account?

This feature is not currently available.
What do I do if Boukili does not work?

If you have trouble using Boukili on the web app , please refresh your browser page and/or clear your browser cache by following the instructions for your browser: Chrome or Firefox. If you have trouble using Boukili on an IOS or Android application, make sure you have the latest version of Boukili installed. You can also reinstall the application
Why can’t I record an audio reading on my computer?

Audio recording is only available in the iOS and Android apps, which are available on tablet and smartphone.
What if I can’t confirm my account?

An account confirmation email is sent automatically. Check your email, including your junk mail folder, or click resend to receive it again.
Why can’t I install Boukili on my Android 8.0 device?

You will need to update your Android system version to install Boukili and get a better experience.
How do I delete my account?

To delete your account, log in to Settings and scroll to the bottom of the page. Deleting your account will erase all your history, as well as any associated student or child profiles.
Is my personal information deleted after I delete my account?

Your data and history will be deleted when you close your account.
